I have been a stay-at-home mom for the past five years, caring for my son. The time has allowed me to reflect, think and decide what I want to do with the second half of my life. During these five years I have come up with a couple of ideas for products. One product in particular, my water-saving colander/bowl set, is what I’m most proud of. I have been granted a provisional patent and hope to find a company interested in bringing this eco-friendly product to market.
Originally from Garden City, New York, I have lived and worked in San Francisco, Paris, London and now in Washington DC. I hold an undergraduate degree from the College of Mt. St. Vincent and a graduate degree from New York University. I have also studied at the American University in Paris, Parsons School of Design – Paris, Institut de Langue Française and Sorbonne University – Paris III. It’s fair to say that during my early-to-mid twenties I thoroughly enjoyed student life, especially in Paris.
In October 2000, back in the States and living in Washington D.C., I accepted a position at the National Geographic Channel. Two years later, in November 2002, half of the staff of the Nat Geo program I was working on was laid off. I was three months pregnant at the time – I was devastated that I lost my job. In hindsight, I’m glad it happened; I enjoyed television for many years, but now it's time to move on.
I have absolutely loved the research, writing, development, contacts – the list goes on – which my product has brought me. What a wonderful journey of discovery!
Thanks go to my husband, Chris, for his continued support, and to my son Thomas who tells me he hopes to see my colander/bowl set in a store so he can buy it.
